If any of you have horses, or know someone with them...
There is a outbreak of Equine EHV-1 in CA right now. 9 Confermed cases so far, all look to trace back to National Rodeo events. Your local vet should have more info, current recomdations is to keep your horses isolated from other horses not in your herd/barn for the next 3 weeks. All local events have been closed down and suspected horses isolated. Current Mood: calm

When I listen to Music, it always takes me places.. sometimes, the music takes me places I have already been..
A couple months ago, I had a dream, it was a somewhat impressive dream, I was in a smoke filled club or something like that, it was big, full of people, a really hopping place..
And there was a song playing I had never heard anything like, it was big band arrangement, with steel guitar, fiddles, horns and a nice two-step type beat, people were out on the floor, it was amazing, the kind of thing you never forget, and thinking about it, I can still smell the smoke, taste the beer, and it makes me grin, because its a place I have been long before, and I think, when I find that bar or club, or place, I will know it, and be home.
This dream, sent me seeking out that song, and I found it yesterday, I was listening to XM, and there was a tribute to a man named Hank Thompson, and they played a song called "Big Beaver" which, well when I heard it, it was mind blowing, it took me back there, and I just sat in my car at the site of my first job grinning from ear to ear..
If any of you guys like Western Swing, here is a list of my faves, and even if you dont like it, or dont know it, give it a whirl, I think you will be surprised.
Hank Thompson & His Brazo Valley Boys:
Big Beaver (Instrumental)
Tuxedo Junction (Instrumental)
A Six Pack to Go
Wildwood Flower (Instrumental)

Never should of left, but should I go back
I sit here now and wonder to my self. Should I of stayed there in Mercer or should I of come back. I really do not know. I had the best time of my life out there, but I missed my mate and my puppy. Oh yeah she is also close to giving birth to here puppies YAY. But sad to say after I have gotten back the only thing my mate has done is given me guilt. Like we talked about a lot of things and I wanted to go back to Mercer to think on them. You know just get away for a little longer and work some of them out in my mind. Well that went all to hell he said the only way that is going to happen is if he could o along. No way in heaven was that going to work theres just not enough room in missa and joes trailer. But I gave in called Missa and she said ok. So we packed up to get ready to head out when Dans shit came up missing the money for gas his smokes and something else I will not say on here because it is not my place to do so.
So because of that happening nether of us could go. Now my friend is making me feel like shit for coming back and I do not know what to do. I want to go back but I do not want my mate hurting or crying because I did so. But for the last 2 days Dan has been throwing it in my face that I should of never left to come back here. But I did not have much there to wear and I needed to pick up more clothing and check on my dog.
So I ask should I stay here and not work out what I need to work out. Or should I go back and worry about my dog and my mate, and worry about having a place to come back to. Can someone please tell me what it is I need to do. I Just to not know any more.

Howdy y'all. Names Tanner.
Guess I'll tell a bit about myself.
Grew up in Alaska, where I learned to ride horses, shoot, track, and do lots of woodsy stuff. Lol.
Now I'm down here in Florida, and it's alright I suppose. Makes me miss Alaska though. Been here few years, I think goin' on eight now.
So yeah. This group looks pretty cool, so I thought I'd check it out. Nice to see that two things I like come together. Cowboys/country, and furs.
Speaking of which, anyone read Coyote River? I just ordered it, looks good.
Well, hope to make some friends here, so nice to meet y'all :) Current Mood: awake

Making a Decision about rifles...
So, a couple of years ago when I was in the air cadets I used to shoot for my squadron. We fired a 22 Winchester bolt action rifle and an SA80 assault rifle, and I got my RAF Marksman qualification.
Thing is I quit the cadets and I didn't wanna carry on shooting because everyone who lives where do who shoots also hunts, and I can't stand hunting, especially being a herbivore 'n all.
But now I've kind of decided 'what the hell' and decided to start target shooting again anyway. My license application is on it's way but I still need something to shoot, preferably a rifle.
I've been looking around and I can get some pretty good second hand rifles (clean, in good condition, all parts present and working etc)for around £50 ($100 I think).
I'm thinking about a BSA Sportsman 5 (bolt action), as it seems similar to the cadet 22 which I'm familiar with, isn't too big, and seems like it would make a good starter rifle. There are some others in the same price range calibre which look pretty good.
I just wandered if any cowboys/girls here had suggestions on what would suit my needs. Remember it's just target shooting, it wont see any hunting action.
If I can root them out I will probably post this in the gun-furries group too.

Big Move to the City
Hey, I haven't been on live journal for ages, but I thought this group is probably the best place to talk to people who understand ;=0 )
I got into De Montfort University (Leicester, UK) which is really, completely cool, but it meant moving to a big city center, and it's kinda weird after growing up in the countryside/coast my entire life. Fair enough it has it's good things, like only being a 2 minute walk from everything and being able to play US football for my university (regular football for y'all in the states lol).
But then at the same time I miss a lot of stuff, like horse riding, the beach, the quietness, the openness, my animals. And when I go home for the holidays I can now appreciate how fresh the air is, and it sounds weird but the smell of manure is actually kind of comforting *blushes*. It's nice being able to drive again too. The problem here is that wherever you look everything is artificial, even trees in the city are all perfect and almost look fake.
I joined the gym here for football but my fitness has still gone down I reckon, just a combination of the air and not having as many physical things to do (other than football).
But yeah hope I'm not spamming up the boards and I just wandered if anyone else has had to do the same thing, and what their experiences of moving to a city was like. I think it makes an interesting conversation in a group like this :=0 ) Typical country boy moving to a big city scenario lol. (man am I pleased I got a spell checker on firefox)

Something to remember
Last year I was sent this. I bring it back up this year. Please to all of you for or aganst the war, don't forget the men and women overseas who this very night may be alone in the dark.
TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS,
HE LIVED ALL ALONE,
IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF
PLASTER AND STONE
I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY
WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE,
AND TO SEE JUST WHO
IN THIS HOME DID LIVE.
I LOOKED ALL ABOUT,
A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE,
NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS, NOT EVEN A TREE.
NO STOCKING BY MANTLE,
JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND,
ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES
OF FAR DISTANT LANDS
WITH MEDALS AND BADGES,
AWARDS OF ALL KINDS,
A SOBER THOUGHT
CAME THROUGH MY MIND
FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT,
IT WAS DARK AND DREARY,
I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER,
ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY.
THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING,
CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR
IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME
THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE,
THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER,
NOT HOW I PICTURED
A UNITED STATES SOLDIER
WAS THIS THE HERO
OF WHOM I'D JUST READ?
CURLED UP ON A PONCHO,
THE FLOOR FOR A BED?
I REALIZED THE FAMILIES
THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT,
OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS
WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT
SOON ROUND THE WORLD,
THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY,
AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE
A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY
THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM
EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR,
BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS,
LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE.
I COULDN'T HELP WONDER HOW MANY LAY ALONE,
ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE
IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME
THE VERY THOUGHT
BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE,
I DROPPED TO MY KNEES
AND STARTED TO CRY
THE SOLDIER AWAKENED
AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE,
"SANTA DON'T CRY,
THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE;
I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM,
I DON'T ASK FOR MORE,
MY LIFE IS MY GOD,
MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS."
THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER
AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP,
I COULDN'T CONTROL IT,
I CONTINUED TO WEEP.
I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS,
SO SILENT AND STILL
AND WE BOTH SHIVERED
FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL
I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE
ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT,
THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR
SO WILLING TO FIGHT
THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER,
WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE,
WHISPERED, "CARRY ON SANTA,
IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE."
ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH,
AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT.
"MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND,
AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT" Current Mood: thankful

somthing i have noticed
there is somthign i have noticed theres this new little thing going around where you make a list of some sort liek ten things then you tage 3 people to answer them and then they do the same thing as well and pick another three and its to make a chain reactting. now i am not looking down on this hell i liek to shot at answering some of those questions my self. but as i sat here and read these posts and looked at who was picked my name was never said unless i was one of the one to be doign the harm and i noticed this in a lot of my so called friends posts and this hurts alot. i will not mention there names because i do nto want to start trouble for them its just not right. yes i knwo i can be mean and crule and down right hurtfull at times. but more so then anything i sit and listen to them talk about there troubles and give helpfull advise and this is how they thank me by saying i am some of the trouble that they are having. it really makes me have to go back and look at things and judge my friends to see which are truly my friends. so in short to those that think i am the blam for there hurt please remove me from your friends list here and anywhere else i want nothing farther to do with you after i helped yall so much

How about cowgirls?
Hi there, I'm Pistol. My "fursona", if you will, is a bandita coyote... fits right in here :) I'm a huge fan of country-inspired rock, like Johnny Cash and Steve Earle (and many, many more!). I'm also a huge fan of blues rock and Southern rock, therefore rounding out my hickish nature. Hey, I am from the South ;)
As a person (or coyote, or whatever :P), I am very friendly and easy-going by nature. Music is my second language, so please let's discuss! I'm also married, and live in Jacksonville, Florida.
How are the rest of y'all doing tonight?

The redneck bear :)
First off glad to have found this group. Nice to know I aint the only fur that is more rural than urban in thinking.
I grew up spending summers on a working cattle ranch, learned to ride horses, care for them, what have you. Thou I live in the city now adays and aint been rideing for *thinks* gods..10 years now, being a cowboy is in my heart (so is being a redneck but *shrugs* thats life). I am currently mated to a wonderful guy (stormbadger). Alot of people call us the country mouse and city mouse because our views are so different but, hey thats what makes life work
Anywho, glad to see the group, im here :) oh and a quick plug, you all might check out the "gun_furry" group, set up for the folks in the fandom that are into shooting.

A new group
Ill do a little spaming. *begs for forgiveness*
I created a new lj community furry_farmers
If your a fur and a farm owner, work at a farm, want to, raise animals, etc welcome. I dont discriminate as to race, age, sexual prefrence, etc. If its to do with farming its open for discussion. With exceptions to animal husbandry and breeding I prefer to keep discussion pg-13 as possible. No porn as there are far better groups for that
Come on and join up
